The farmer should know that the land can become a business for him: Arsen Harutyunyan

“Our five-year cooperation with State Committee of Water Economy allows us to look to the future with optimism and with content to the works already done and ongoing”, said the representative of Sustainable Development Department of French Development Agency Vache Papazyan during the meeting with SCWE Chairman Arsen Harutyunyan.

Vache Papazyan presented the implemented works of Agency and especially stressed the construction projects on Kaps and Vedi Reservoirs.

“Upon RA Government request we launched constructions on Vedi Reservoir, which will allow storing around 200 mln cubic meters water and irrigate additional 3200 hectares lands, which will have a significant development in agricultural sector. Following up the activities of the newly appointed chairman, can mention with gratification, that our approaches coincide especially with reducing the state subsidies and enlargement of irrigated land areas”, said V. Papazyan.

SCWE Chairman Arsen Harutyunyan noted that the main goal of structural changes to be in water economy sector is reducing the corruption risks and increasing work efficiency of infrastructures.

“I’d like to mention that any structural change to be in the system is not an end in itself. All our efforts will be directed to the augmentation of work effectiveness and support the beginners in the sector. One of our pending issues shall be the use of uncontrolled lands again irrigated in Soviet times. We should use every chance of agricultural development to facilitate the burden of the farmer and make the sector attractive to him. The farmer should know that the land can become a business for him providing welfare not only for his family but for the entire country”, said A. Harutyunyan and added that the next important issue need to be solved is the energy saving.
